Hello Nick & Alfie, Sorry its taken me some time to get back to you! I have watched the video feedback. I have taken note of the vocal clashing and patterns. I have also really reviewed the breakdown / build up section and will try add or subtract to build more tension can definately hear more in the breakdown. For the Piano will probably try the Solina strings and use a 303 type sound or different stabs for B section drop. Overall pleased that this version is improved and will be sending another version once i apply the feedback thank you for the in depth review and speak very soon. Kesh

Woah, thanks Jex! This feedback really means a lot. I would more than gladly accept your proposal, I'm managing to finish tracks a bit faster now. Will let you know as soon as I have something :) I think the main vocal part is pretty catchy, I like how it's rhythmically delivered. So I would maybe replace it with a midi pattern (eg. with the synth stab) or something similar. I'll try it out !
Hi Philipp! Sorry for the late review, and thanks so much for your valuable advice on making the track cleaner and more percussive. When I’m close to finishing a track, it often feels like there’s some extra space that needs to be filled, or that it’s missing a bit of groove, which is why I tend to add FX here and there. But you’re 100% right, I need to push myself to use them only when they’re really necessary so the track stays clear and easy to follow :) I think I need a little break from this track now haha, but I’ll definitely let you know if I make a V3 or start working on new projects. I will receive my K2000 at the end of the week and will try to make a new track with it soon. It only has the factory presets on it. I’ve seen on the internet that there is a big nerd community that has upgraded their synths and created tons of new presets available online. They replace the floppy disk drive with an SD or USB one, add orchestral cards, extra RAM, etc. To be honest, I’m not a great sound designer, so it sounds interesting to me in terms of presets, but I’m probably even worse with putting my hands into electronic systems. I’ll take some time to explore the factory presets and all the functionality of the synth before making a decision, I guess. Thanks again for all your feedback, I really appreciate it! :) 2RUF

Hello Nick mate, Wicked to get your video feedback and transcript Im really sorry to hear about Alfie hope he is okay and gets well soon mate! I have watched the full feedback and taken my own notes. I am using Logic Prox for the project well spotted and have taken notes on the levels for the Kick and the Kick & Bass not quite gelling properly that could be the Kick causing issue or sidechaining possibly? For the vocal sections i did use Flex pitch to correct the pitch based on your previous feedback but will try adjusting the 'Oh Yeah' vocal so good shout ! For the arrangement and composition your right about the Long Pad it could come earlier say 2mins and then have a melodic part with a lower pad in the dropdown. Also i could sidechain the PADS for movement thats just a thought. I will work on the dropdown section and breakdown and try adding the SOLINA (haha) Strings i love them so could layer that with a different pad maybe would give it a nice rave vibe in E Flat Minor. So really i just need to sort out the levels in general and get it all balanced the Kick was set around 6dB with compression and saturation so maybe coming in to hot! I will work on adding some more ravey elements that will get this song closer to being a final version. I will apply the feedback and see if i can get the breakdown to flow better and and sort the other points out really super helpful mate and of course really appreciate this as always i really love your music since Flo Jam love how your have evolved your tunes. Thanks for the feedback, Philipp! Super constructive — it really helped me get some perspective. I’m going to rework the arrangement to better frame the intro, the peak time, etc. You’re right as well, I’ll simplify the bass — having two dedicated layers made it a bit too complex on the ear. I also think I can rework the melody and the drums; they might be a bit too simple, or too locked to the beat. The real challenge now will be changing all that without losing the essence of the track — not that easy for me haha. It’ll probably take some time, but I’ll of course keep you posted once I’ve got a new version I’m happy with! PS : Loved the full cheese fashion style !

Since Philipp Lauer (Berghain, Robert Johnson, Beats in Space etc...) is an experienced Multi-instrumentalist for years, he understands Dance Music inside out, and therefore knows how to finish High Quality Music within hours - as if he was just cooking an healthy dish for his evening dinner. Now I recieved my second Feedback from Italo-Techno`s Gentlemen-Dinosaur - and again, he shared his knowledge in a very relaxed, highly empathic and super motivational way. I´m looking forward to future Feedbacks from him - and highly (highly) recommend this to anyone - who loves Post-House-Proto-Disco-Trance, or just high quality music in general.

Hey Johannes! thank you very much for your feedback and don't worry about the countryside setting, it made it all more human, and it felt a bit like an old friend was taking time to help me with my musical struggle :D I am happy to get an overall positive feedback but mostly because you addressed exactly the point for which i was doubting the most: alternative arrangement, lenght and effects use. You were asking yourself which were my references or inspirations. Definetly Chicago House but as well also detroit house and some more conteporary music producer who have a more melodical approach. But at the end it mostly comes from my hardware jams <3 I will definetly send you the final version!
So glad I discovered this platform. I used to go and see Dusky when I was at uni about 10 years ago and feel blessed to have some form of direct line of contact with them via my music. The feedback on my mix was good and on time from the boys and I will be using them again. I think maybe I introduced a little bit of confusion when I said I didn't have access to the project (but what I meant was I don't have access to the production file (I still have the stems on separate tracks in mixdown project) - so I could have been a bit clearer on this my end. The most helpful bits for me personally were when they provided an additional layer of detail - like what slopes to use on an EQ to prevent phasing in the low end, how to prevent resonance build up whilst protecting the dynamics of the track, specific M/S EQ moves that would protect the brightness of the track whilst reducing hissing in the sides etc, how to add some top end to the track with some specific moves on certain buses/tracks rather than just adding a shelf to the mixbus. This is really the level of detail I needed to hear. I also felt a bit confused on the settings I needed to supply my track at for mastering and dusky cleared up some things I felt a bit worried/unclear about. Additionally, what I found super useful was getting their take on the one most important thing I should address VS what the mastering engineer will probably address. This was helpful to me because I'd rather a mastering engineer make some of the changes over me, given that they'd do a better job. I've been noodling around with various things for weeks so it gave me a sense of relief in that sense. Moving forward I would use Dusky again for mixdown feedback and I'm keen to get their feedback on the development of tracks too. Cheers boys, appreciate your time!

Ah, thank you so much for the feedback! It is very considered and will be useful. I hadn't listened to the track in a couple of weeks, and I've just listened to it again (on headphones this time) and can hear the opportunities that you've spoken about (the dubby clap delays are not needed for this track), and I'm going to experiment and liven up the stripped back part (or remove it). Also my feedback on your feedback (as requested): thank you for mentioning the things you like about the track first - as you mentioned it can be hard to share things, so I appreciated those comments. And it was useful that you referenced timestamps a few times, that helped me understand exactly what you were talking about. Also, the other artists that you referenced will be useful - I know their names but I haven't listened to them so much, so I'm going to go and see if I can get some inspiration. Again, thank you very much 🙏🏻

haha you're the man Jex - congrats on the new arrival - so cute! Im sure you have your hands full now proper!! I'm sure you will return to the touring at some stage buddy! I have 2 little ones myself - so im only able to get to the studio during working hours believe it or not haha!! Legend for the feedback - I used Rob Papen Blue 111 vst for this bass - its a beauty of a synth for all types of bass and those kind of float arpy sounds, be right up your street!! I will definitely send over more tracks buddy - cos i only get to produce while i work i dont turnaround many tracks in quicky but when I do Il share :) would be epic to release something with you again at some stage! I am a resident in belfast thompsons garage so hopefully will get dropping some of these beauties over the summer!! will keep in touch man - good luck with the dipers :)

Johannes gave me 25 minutes worth of notes, which is probably the most detailed feedback i've ever had from anyone in my life :) It's so valuable getting ears on your music from your favourite artists - I almost can't believe the price! Johannes you were 100% correct in your assessment of my musical taste/background just from listening to the track. You even identified your own track 'Lasga's Return' from over 10 years ago which was a direct inspiration - ok, maybe I ripped it off ;) - and the reason why I sent this to you. You specifically mentioned the bass, and it was your bassline that I was trying to emulate! Some of your suggestions I already had a little inkling about, so it's actually reassuring hearing those coming from a pro. Now if only I could find the original project file... I have a few other projects that I'd like your ears on too, so I look forward to submitting those for feedback soon.

Hey guys ! Wow. That was really in depth! I was expecting a 30 second video of more bullet points rather than a whole depth into the process of creating and I salute you highly for taking the time for the feedback. It really does a long way in growing as an artist so I really appreciate it. i also haven’t gotten it mastered yet nor mixed and levels/equalising stuff has never been my forte. That being said I’m happy that that’s one of the takeaways and also thanks for the juxtaposition comments I do agree. I’d love to send you the track when it’s a bit more finalised. Thanks Jex, I'm glad you enjoy it as you're a major influence. Watched you in Syd a few weeks ago too - ICONIC. The soft synth sound is created by putting a randomiser (tremolo plugin) on a DX7 emulator soft synth preset & then chorus, flange, delay ect on top! When we get our Soundcloud/Bandcamp up & running I'll send you some of my other demos. All quite similar to 'Alice Coltrane". Would be really cool to be considered for the Echio pick of the month too. Keep in touch, Yanni :)

I was a little afraid to use a small chords progression during the track, so I can keep it dance floor oriented, but yes, I I will figure it out, play a little with some chords there. Hey Philipp!! thank you so much for the answer I found it super helpful. Really loved the feedback man, direct, and helpful, as it should be. :) I'm actually gonna go back and try implement some of the stuff you mentioned since my mixing engineer hasn't started working on it yet. I talked to my pianist friend about the piano stabs, he also found them a tiny bit off but he said they still work in the track as a whole, so I might leave them as they are, just cause I'm being lazy, but def trying the strings and other arrangement tweaks you mentioned. II would love to send you a v2, perhaps I can request feedback for another track and also throw in a link for the v2 of this one? or does this need another request on its own? ehhe Anyhow, little bird told me you might be coming to Seattle around August, if so, I would LOVE to get a lemonade and talk shop with you!!

Hallo Sascha, vielen lieben Dank für dein Feedback! Dirk hat super viel Output und ich filter alles durch. Gemeinsam gehen wir dann an die Struktur. Womit ich aber oft hadere ist die Länge des Tracks. Wie kurz darf es sein? Ab wann wirds langweilig? Usw. Wir haben 6 bis 7 Tracks, die alle stilistisch gut zusammen passen. Das Zuende bringen ist ja oft des Künstlers Leid, aber der Gedanke, vielleicht doch von einem Label unterstützt zu werden, zieht. Vielleicht haben wir ja Glück mit unserem Zeugs. Hey jex, haha okay. didn't expect such good feedback. Thank you! I'm very happy to hear that. :) Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to play the track in a club yet. I'll definitely send it to you when I release it on my bandcamp page. A lot of the sounds are samples like the stabs, which are pitched down reggae chords. And the organ sound is from the Arturia SQ80 vst . I would like to have the original synth, but it's too expensive for me... But this will definitely become one of my favorite synths :)

Hey, Thanks for getting back to us again. We’re happy the feedback is positive. I know what you mean about the high bass sound. We have had trouble automating the specific plug in that we were using. Although we like it we’ll cut our losses with it and find another instrument for that line that is more easily adjustable. I was really in a bind wondering what to do next, but know exactly now how to approach it: - enhance the space (reverb/delay sends) for drums, and bass (never thought of that!) - rearrange to bring the big moment earlier to maintain the listeners' attention (and even shorten the track) - Bring out the vocals more (I was always torn on this sample. Might find something different in this case) I truly was blown away by this feedback. Will definitely be sending more tunes in :) Also looking forward to your stop in Chicago! I'll be on support that night. Don't worry, I'll be complementing your label sound that night. Congrats on 10 years!

Thank you for the in-depth feedback guys, it's really appreciated. This is a track I've been unable to make my mind up on for a while now which is why I sought out your thoughts on it. You've helped me notice things I never would have considered by myself which is great! Will definitely take on board your comments and will get back to the drawing board with this one I think. Probably end up making something completely different with some of the more stronger elements haha. Will certainly look to send over the new and improved version once it's ready. Thanks again!

That's great, thanks a lot for your feedback. I'll go back into the project and try to tidy it up a bit based on your recommendations. I agree that there is quite a lot of elements in the track so creating more space will certainly help. Do you happen to have any recommendations for plugins that are good for panning/stereo widening etc? Really appreciate your advice about the importance of getting music out there for someone in my position. I plan to put more tracks out this year for sure. I just want to make sure my productions are up to standard as best as I can first. Thanks!
