David August is a composer, mixing engineer, pianist, DJ and founder of the label 99CHANTS. Bridging experimental composition and multidisciplinary art, he first gained international recognition in the early 2010s. His work continually redefines his artistic identity, from the beatless DCXXXIX A.C. to the post-rock influenced D’ANGELO. In 2018, he launched the label 99CHANTS supporting exploratory music and formats. His project VĪS (2023) marked a turning point, combining philosophy, mysticism and sound into a multidisciplinary work with its own alphabet, interactive website and live performance. He later explored more physical forms with WORKOUTS (2024), drawing on dubstep, breakbeat and bass music, and expanded VĪS through reinterpretations and a Barbican live release. His latest album HYMNS (2026) returns to piano, reflecting on memory and ancestry with intimacy and restraint. With over 400 shows worldwide, August continues to explore sound, imagination and human experience.
