Hey Tom, sorry for the late reply too - life has been busy here :) Really appreciate the time you took and the professional feedback - super insightful. Once I heard the song after your feedback, everything that you mentioned made total sense and I tried to improve it as best as I could. Also made a couple of small changes here and there and was able to finish the track and just sent it to be released on the 8th of December. I will leave the final product here in case you wanna use it or just give it a listen https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h2x6lVPEzx3JTcVmeBOJHt9x_fzkRTZl/view. Didn't mention it before but just wanted to say I am a big fan of your stuff for quite some time! More recently I have been really into "Heart can still somersault" (such a banger) and also "Skin & Mind" collab with Aleksandir! Keep it up :) Cheers
Thanks Tom! The feedback on the arrangement suggestion is a nice one, will definitely try it out. And the rests gives me confidence to finish it so much appreciated!
Hey Tom, I'm glad the track resonates with you, Thanks for the feedback! It's precise and it cleared some aspects I had doubts on. I can continue with peace of mind ;) Cheers, Antoine
Tom's feedback was amazing. He was incredibly generous with advice and went above and beyond to help improve my track. I couldn't recommend him enough!!
Hey, thanks for your feedback: sure, I'll work on the bass and drums as I also felt that the bass was a bit too loud! Glad you liked the track anyway :)
As usual the quality of feedback was amazing. Pleased to hear you enjoyed the track and the production and I appreciate the tips on how to add extra depth to the mix. Also appreciate you taking the time to load the track in ableton and replicate the bassline so you could materialise your idea of layering the bass/sub as an example.
Hey Tom :) wonderful hearing from you , looked like a crazy venue in India , congrats dude. I’ll be diving back into the track after the holidays and will reach out to you on here then …hope you n yours have a merry Christmas!
Thanks so much Tom! Super insightful to hear your thoughts on the track, will be trying out those suggestions you mentioned; really appreciate the care you put into listening and analysing it. Great to have a second opinion from someone with so much experience. Cheers mate!
Hey Tom! Thanks so much for the feedback. Will look at eqing the low/mids on the main vocal and think about boosting the overall highs. Love the idea of putting an EQ on the master and playing around with boosting or cutting certain frequencies and a bing. Cheers mate. Would love to do a monthly session with you. Just book thru echio? Got a number of tracks to run past you, for sure!
Thank you SO MUCH TOM that was invaluable. Really appreciate all your suggestions will take them on board and take a look at cloud core. THANK YOU
Tom - this is great feedback, thanks so much. You really honed in on the aspects of my demo that needed improvement and gave me clear and easy to follow techniques that'll up-level the piece. I'm looking forward to putting your advice into practise. I'll send an update asap. Cheers
Hi Tom, Thank you for your feedback man! I put the techniques you showed me into practice in the song as well as a new one and I really like the randomness and uncertainty of it. I must say it was hugely inspiring to have someone I listen to give feedback and constructive criticism on my music just really makes me want to do better and become just that little bit better than I was yesterday. I’ll be sure to send over a newer version of the song once I have made more improvements. Cheers! Ben.
hi Tom, thank you for the feedback. I'm happy that you think that the track is pretty much there. I will add some more stereo movement to that glitch that sticks out a bit and call it done. Thanks for clarifying on the Youandewan reference! I'm listening to the album now and it's really nice. I'll definitely send you more tracks from the album as it develops. Thanks again!! Sarah
So sorry for taking so long to respond but really appreciated the feedback. Really valuable to hear how the mix and sound design could be embellished.
Thanks Tom, super detailed and all really useful!
Tom, thanks so much! Some really cool ideas you’ve shared here. I do a lot of this sort of stuff with my melodic elements so translating these approaches to my drums makes perfect sense and is something I can definitely take action on. I like how you are doing your automation live, in the moment. I guess you can be pretty spontaneous and go by feel rather than overthinking where and when you are going to mute stuff. I’ll definitely have a play around with that approach as I’m always wanting to make my workflows more fun and more likely to get me into creative flow. I’m also really encouraged by your nice comments about my sound. Thank you! I love Louf, so I’m pleased with that association for sure!! Who was the other artist you mentioned? It sounded like Ewan Ewan but I’m not sure if I heard correctly! Could you write it for me so I can check them out? Anyway, thanks again. I’ll definitely be sending more stuff.
Man, thanks so much for the extensive response. and in video form too, with your mug in it! Appreciate the kind words, yes definitely channelling some wax/shed (or his million other alias'). Absolutely agree, I think adding a sub somewhere would help, I tried at one point but as you noted there's a lot going on in the mix, your method is real handy though I'll try that. I haven't kept a leash on the percussion loop and any of the delays on the dub echo's either, so tailoring them will clean up the mix. On the label front, I think I'm at the stage where I've got a body of work I'm happy to send out, so I'll attempt to find a home for this music cause I'm quite proud of it. There's a network of artists like yourself that I'm inspired by and hopefully I can make some contact with too. Again thanks so much for the response Tom, I'll send you some other tracks in due time. See you Saturday x
Thanks Tom for this constructive feedback, I agree with the areas to explore to enhance the track and you've given me some orientations for each of them. Very relevant inspiration track you gave me btw; I'll be trying different approaches as advised, to see what stands out - Cheers!
thank you Tom! I appreciate the kind words and I had not heard Vacuum Boogie before but I really enjoy FP and that song is sick! I really appreciate the feedback overall, and the tips seem really useful, especially with selecting and shaping the drums as a group. I also like the advice about archiving everything in the user library for more source material/inspiration! I’m seeing your review a bit late, but I appreciate the prompt response as well!
Thank you so much for this amazing feedback! Love the idea of layering, using a low cut filter, and subtly adding some distortion/saturation to the bass. Will also add a small click to the kick. Typically I've done this with hat samples and shortening them as you suggested. And I'm glad the breakdown part really stands out to you, so I'll definitely make that part shine more. Thanks so much again. It was extremely helpful :)
Hey mate! This is unreal, thank you so much for diving in and giving me such in-depth feedback. What you said makes a lot of sense and I’m keen to take it on and apply it to the mix. Loved what you said about the balance between higher and lower frequencies in the drops. I agree that the sub can carry a lot more weight in those moments. Might even experiment with replacing the kick sample. Again, can’t express how appreciative I am - cheers man! Glad you liked the track, will share an updated mix once I’ve revised it :) x
Thanks for your super quick feedback Tom. I’m glad you liked it and will definitely be applying the points for improvement you have shared.
Thanks Tom, really appreciate the feedback. Yes, I'm a big fan of Otik (and skee mask) I'll use those tracks to reference. Makes sense re. sidechaining more elements too. And your totally right about the 3 note melody, I noticed that when I replayed it last week. On a separate note do you do any paid tuition?
