About
Om Unit is a producer, DJ and live performer who has spent close to two decades working across electronic music. Drawing on breaks, techno, dub, jungle, footwork and ambient, he has developed a distinct approach to sound system music, and one that has influenced many others along the way. Under his former Philip D Kick alias, he was among the first to connect jungle and footwork, helping shape a wider movement in up-tempo bass music. His releases include the acclaimed debut 'Threads', followed by 'Inversion' and 'Self', and more recently the 'Acid Dub Studies' series, with remixes from Satoshi Tomiie, Daniel Avery, Hodge and CV313 among others. Collaborative projects include work with TM404, Martyn, Seekersinternational, James Bangura and Deadbeat. He has recorded mixes for BBC Radio 1, Boiler Room, Resident Advisor, FACT and Rinse FM, appeared live on Hör, The Lot, Noods and Kiosk radio, and has been shortlisted by DJ Magazine for Best Producer and Best Remixer. He has performed more than 500 shows in over 30 countries, at events ranging from Montreux Jazz Festival and Dekmantel to Waking Life and Mysteryland, and now also tours an 'Acid Dub Studies' live show. His sound moves between slow-motion beats, the darker ends of the hardcore continuum, up-tempo footwork and a more mature take on acid, dub, house and techno, and it resists easy categorisation.
